Sample Itinerary for 5 Days Astonishing Safari to Nyerere and Mikumi National Parks
DAY 1: Pick Up, Transfer to Nyerere National Park and Evening Boat Safari
Early morning of this day you will be picked up from Dar Es Salaam airport, hotel, or residence and start your journey to Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve. This scenic drive takes you through beautiful countryside landscapes, local villages, and natural vegetation of Southern Tanzania. Upon arrival at the park, you will check in at your accommodation at Africa Safari Camp, have lunch, and refresh before heading for an exciting evening boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River.
During the boat safari, expect to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and a variety of bird species along the riverbanks while enjoying the breathtaking African sunset. After the activity, you will return to the camp or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 2: Full Day Game Drives in Nyerere National Park
After an early breakfast, you will leave for a full day game drive inside Nyerere National Park exploring different areas of this vast wilderness. The park is famous for its large populations of elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, wild dogs, antelopes, and many other wildlife species.

DAY 4: Full Day Game Drives in Mikumi National Park
This day starts with an early sunrise game drive from around 06:30 hours, one of the best times to spot predators and other wildlife while animals are still active. After the morning game drive, you will return for breakfast and continue exploring different sections of Mikumi National Park.
Mikumi is well known for its open savannah plains and abundant wildlife including lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, warthogs, impalas, and over 300 bird species. You will have lunch break within the park before continuing with afternoon game drives covering more wildlife viewing areas.
Later in the evening, you will return to your accommodation at the Mikumi Park Cottages for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 5: Sunrise Game Drive and Transfer to Dar Es Salaam by SGR Train
On the final day of your safari, you will enjoy an early morning sunrise game drive in Mikumi National Park for another opportunity to experience the beauty of African wildlife and landscapes. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Morogoro for your Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train journey to Dar Es Salaam. The SGR train offers a comfortable and scenic travel experience through the beautiful landscapes of Tanzania while allowing you to relax after your safari adventure.
