Day 1: Dar es Salaam / Morogoro to Mikumi National Park
Your safari adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel, residence, airport, or ferry terminal in Dar es Salaam or Morogoro. You will travel through the scenic landscapes of the Morogoro Region, passing local villages, sisal plantations, and the magnificent Uluguru Mountains.
Upon arrival at Mikumi National Park, you will enjoy lunch before embarking on your first exciting afternoon game drive. Mikumi is one of Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife destinations, renowned for its vast Mkata Floodplain, often compared to the famous Serengeti Plains. Day 3: Mikumi National Park – Udzungwa Mountains National Park
Following breakfast, you will depart for Udzungwa Mountains National Park, one of Africa’s most important biodiversity hotspots and part of the Eastern Arc Mountains. The journey takes approximately one hour from Mikumi.
Upon arrival, complete park registration and begin a guided trek through the lush tropical rainforest. Accompanied by an armed ranger and park guide, you will hike along forest trails while searching for endemic bird species, butterflies, and primates, including the Iringa Red Colobus and Sanje Mangabey monkeys that are found only in this region
The highlight of the hike is the spectacular Sanje Waterfalls, cascading approximately 170 meters through the rainforest. From the upper viewpoint, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across the Kilombero Valley and surrounding wilderness. There will be time to relax, take photographs, and swim in the natural pools beneath the falls.
After descending from the mountains, transfer to your lodge near Udzungwa for dinner and overnight.
