Day 1: Pick up and Transfer – Start of Mikumi and Udzungwa Safari
Traveling from Dar Es Salaam to Udzungwa and completing the mountain climb on the same day is not practical, so you will spend the first day traveling to or closer to Udzungwa Mountains National Park. However, travelers starting from Morogoro town can reach Udzungwa and begin the hike on the same day. On this day, our driver guide will pick you up from your preferred location in Dar Es Salaam or Morogoro town and start your exciting safari adventure.
After greetings and introduction you will start drive to Mikumi town and /or Udzungwa Mountains via Morogoro town. You will spend a night in Mikumi town/Udzungwa ready for climbing the next day. Overnight stay and dinner in Morogoro town or Mikumi town or Udzungwa. This will depend entirely to your own interests and preferred arrangements.
Day 2: Climbing Udzungwa Mountains and Sunset game drives in Mikumi
This trip introduces you to the stunning natural habitats of Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Our driver guide will pick you up from your accommodation or residence in Morogoro town or Mikumi town as early as 05:30 hours, and then you will begin your journey to Udzungwa. Upon arrival at the park, you will complete park registration and immediately start your mountain trek using the popular Sanje Waterfalls route, which takes approximately 4 hours for both ascent and descent. However, the hiking duration may vary depending on your pace.
Udzungwa ranks among the world’s 34 Biodiversity Hotspots and offers incredible opportunities to explore Tanzania’s rich wildlife and rainforest ecosystem. During the trek, you may spot several primate species, including the rare Sanje Mangabey (Cercocebus sanjei) and the Iringa Red Colobus (Procolobus gordonorum), both found only in Udzungwa. You may also encounter habituated Sanje Mangabeys, endemic plant species, colorful butterflies, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and breathtaking waterfalls along the trail. After completing the hike, your guide will transfer you to Mikumi National Park for lunch. Later in the afternoon, you will enjoy an exciting evening and sunset game drive before spending the night inside the park.
Day 3: Game Drive in Mikumi and Transfers to Dar – End of Mikumi and Udzungwa Safari
In this day your will be taken for sunrise game drive starting from 06:30 hours till around 08:30 whereby your will have breakfast, there after continue with game drive till the same time you entered the park on Day 2 (end of your 24 hours within the park). After game drive you start trip back to Dar. In Mikumi National Park expect to see animals such as Lions, Buffalos, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebras, Impalas, Warthogs, elephants, hippos, more than 300 bird species and various plant species.
