2 Days Safari to Mikumi and Udzungwa

ABOUT UDZUNGWA MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

This is part of the Eastern arc mountain range and most of the activities involves climbing/trekking. There are different routes available for trekking but the tourist route is the Sanje route which is about 4 hours up and down. Udzungwa is one of thirty four World Biodiversity hotspots. Expect to see Primates. Udzungwa have 11 primates species whereby 2 of these are found no where in the world, these are Sanje Mangabey (Cercocebus sanjei) and Iringa Red Colobus (Procobus gordonorum). Also you may have the opportunity to see habituated Sanje Mangabeys, different endemic plant species, birds, reptiles and Amphibians, Butterflies, waterfalls, etc.

ABOUT MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK

Activities in this closest National Park from Morogoro town involves wildlife viewing safaris, camping safaris, walking safaris and night safaris. In Mikumi National Park expect to see animals such as Lions, Buffalos, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebras, Impalas, Warthogs, elephants, hippos, more than 300 bird species and various plant species.

DAY 1: PICK UP, TRANSFER AND TREKKING IN UDZUNGWA

Early morning of this day you will be picked up at your residence in Morogoro town at around 05:30 hours and start your drive to Udzungwa National Park. This drive takes you via Mikumi National Park, Mikumi Town (where you will have a short stop for breakfast) and then through a 20km rough road to Udzungwa. Once you arrive at the park you will be registered and then start climbing preferably at Sanje route to be able to see the 4 stages waterfalls. After taking your lunch boxes at the top you will have an opportunity to have a swim under the waterfalls, it is a cold swim. After the swim you will start to ascend (the trekking takes about 4 hours up and down depending on your climbing pace).

When you come down you will be taken to Mikumi National Park for dinner and overnight stay within or outside the park (will depend on the choice of accommodation to be used).

DAY 2: GAME DRIVE AND TRANSFER BACK TO MOROGORO TOWN

The park is open for drive from as early as 06:30 hours. So in this morning you will go for sunrise game drive from 06:30 hours and will come back for breakfast at 08:30 hours. After breakfast will continue with game drive within the park, game drive will take you into different parts of the park searching for wild animals. You will have lunch break around 13:00 till 14:00 hours at Mikumi Wildlife Camp whereby you have the opportunity to have lunch while viewing different wild animals as they roam the water holes nearby the camp. After lunch break you will continue with game drive covering other areas of the park till around 16:30 hours and that will be the end of full day game drive.

You will start to drive back to Dar at 16:30 hours (or earlier depends on the time you need to be in Morogoro town, this will be agreed before hand). When you get to Morogoro town you will be transferred to the place of your residence and that will be the end of your 2 days trip with Watu Safaris.
